ppt - private public transport concept
The PPT project was an investigation into transportation options for metropolitan areas. Research of existing private public systems indicated that Melbourne’s CBD would inevitably be free of privately owned automobiles. Automobiles proved easily discounted by their wasteful misuse of fossil fuels, lack of realistic alternative propulsion technologies, and their lethal and socially disabling effect on the population.
Melbourne’s public train system was also discounted on issues of efficiency and convenience. Even the eco benefits of public train systems came into question when passenger numbers on services outside peak times were compared to the systems energy use and infrastructure requirements. The Private Public Transport system was designed in accordance to the research findings as a realistic conceptual transport system that could potentially replace existing transport systems in metropolitan areas. The system is an on-demand automated public transport service with a personal experience similar to a taxi. In essence, PPT combines benefits of existing private transportation - like convenience - with benefits of public transport; fewer user-born responsibilities, less energy and material use, adding automation to create a ‘super transport system’ that can be used by almost everyone.
